If you’ve ever wanted to try fusible machine applique, now is the perfect time! So many of our quilt patterns make use of machine applique to enhance the design, and we thought it was time to offer an online class on the technique. Enter, “Make Friends with Machine Applique“!
Over the course of eight lessons, we cover pros and cons of different types of fusible web, prepping the fusible web and fabric, cutting, stitching (including satin stitching), couching yarn as a bonus lesson, and troubleshooting some of the potential hazards like text and fonts, outside points, inside curves, and more!
The class sample for the machine applique online class is our “Sewing” design, and it comes with instructions to finish it as a wallhanging with a checkerboard border as seen above. You can make the class sample with scraps and 3 fat quarters; one for the applique background and two for the checkerboard. If you’d rather, you can always resize the applique background to fit a project of your own design; a 20 x 20″ square gives some nice spacing to the spools, letters, and couched yarn for the thread. Lynn has even turned her machine applique sample into a pillow.
When you purchase a class through our online learning platform, the class is yours, forever! You can watch the lessons at your own pace, return at your own time, for as many times as you like. The classes come with video lessons and PDF downloads for the pattern, handouts, and instructions. We hope you’ll check it out!
